Trip Report: Beaches Turks and Caicos

Trip Report: Beaches Turks and Caicos

A luxurious, family-friendly resort in beautiful Turks and Caicos

As a travel advisor, I have had the pleasure of visiting many different family destinations, but one that truly stands out is Beaches Turks and Caicos. This all-inclusive resort, located on the beautiful Grace Bay Beach in Providenciales, is the ultimate paradise for those seeking a relaxing vacation. In fact, your holiday starts shortly after stepping out of the airport – it’s only a 10-minute ride to the resort.

Five resorts in one

One of the first things that struck me about Beaches Turks and Caicos was the sheer size of the resort. With more than 700 rooms and suites spread across 95 acres, there is something for everyone here. So if you are looking for a romantic getaway for two or a fun-filled family vacation, this resort has the perfect accommodations to suit your needs.

The resort is divided into four distinct villages, each with its unique atmosphere and amenities. The Caribbean Village features colourful architecture and a laid-back vibe, while the French Village offers a touch of elegance and sophistication. The Seaside Village is lush with garden and ocean views. The Italian Village boasts spacious suites and stunning ocean views, while the Key West Village is perfect for extended families. I stayed in the Italian Village and can vouch for those incredible ocean views! Check out my room tour below.

Adjacent to the Caribbean Village is a new village under construction on the former Treasure Beach property. At the time of writing, there isn’t much construction underway, but the construction hoarding shows what the future development will look like. Furthermore, a couple of room categories in the Caribbean Village look out to this area – which is even more reason to work with a travel advisor to help you plan your stay!

World-class amenities and gourmet food

No matter which village you stay in, you’ll be treated to world-class amenities and impeccable service – a staple of Beaches Resorts. This resort features 21 restaurants (and food trucks!) serving everything from Caribbean cuisine to Italian favourites, as well as 15 bars and lounges where you can enjoy a refreshing cocktail or a glass of wine.

I’m not going to lie – I may have had three dinners each night to sample most of the restaurants! Of the ones I tried, a few stood out to me:

  • Sky – Perfect for watching the sun go down from a second-story rooftop open-air dining area
  • Petit Chateau – I was treated to off-menu Canadian east coast oysters and lobster at this French restaurant.
  • Neptune’s – Another spectacular beachfront restaurant that offered a Mediterranean twist.

Grace Bay Beach: One of the most beautiful beaches in the world

Of course, the real star of the show at Beaches Turks and Caicos is the beach. Grace Bay Beach is consistently ranked as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, with its crystal-clear turquoise waters and powdery white sand. So whether you want to soak up the sun, take a dip in the ocean, or try water sports like kayaking and paddle boarding, the beach is the perfect place to do it. And, just like its sister resorts – Sandals – SCUBA diving is one of the many inclusions.

Beyond the beach are many additional ways to unwind, with more pools than I can count on two hands and a pirate-themed waterpark and lazy river. For those who want to indulge in relaxation and pampering, the resort’s Red Lane Spa offers a range of treatments inspired by the Caribbean.

Trip Report: Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady

Trip Report: Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady

Unleash Your Inner Rockstar: Our Epic Adventure on Scarlet Lady

First off, let me clear up a popular misconception about Virgin Voyages: It’s not a swinger’s cruise! When I first heard about Scarlet Lady, I didn’t know what to think about Virgin Voyages as a cruise line option…but I knew it looked like a LOT of fun!

Virgin Voyages infuses music, elevated food options, incredible port stops and, of course, world-class entertainment into their four ships – Scarlet Lady, Valiant Lady, Brilliant Lady and Resilient Lady. Its adults-only environment adds an element of class to the sailing. According to Virgin, the median age of sailors is in the mid-40s, but I saw a diverse range of ages on my sailing.

I wanted to try Virgin Voyages for myself – and am so glad I did because it was everything I didn’t expect… but in a great way!

Read on for a full report of my experience on the Fire & Sunset Soirée sailing to Key West and Bimini.

Many options to get to Miami, FL

We flew into Fort Lauderdale airport (FLL) from Toronto, a great option as there are usually multiple daily flights. Even the locals in Miami I spoke with said they prefer flying out of FLL instead of Miami International Airport (MIA)!

Our stay at the Moxy Miami South Beach

We were looking to kick off our vacation with style, and we did! The Moxy is a funky boutique-style hotel that Marriott operates. The hotel is located on Washington Avenue, just a few blocks from the beach and close to many popular attractions, restaurants, and nightlife spots. It features a chic and playful design, bright colours, bold patterns, and funky art throughout the property. The lobby has a retro-inspired bar and lounge area, while the rooms are designed with an industrial-chic aesthetic.

Virgin Voyages cruise terminal in Miami (Terminal V) is one of the most gorgeous cruise terminals I’ve seen. But even better than its aesthetic appeal, the terminal’s staff made the embarkation experience seamless. Virtually no more than 20 minutes were standing in line to check in and get on the ship – and no time waiting to disembark at the end of the ship. That was a big plus for me.

The Scarlet Lady offers a range of amenities and activities, including 20 different dining options, a spa, many fitness areas, a tattoo parlour (Squid Ink – note: you MUST make reservations upon embarking on the ship to get a spot), a great selection of retail boutiques, nightclub (The Manor), two pools and multiple hot tubs.

Our Accommodations on the Scarlet Lady: Sea Terrace Cabin

We loved our cabin – my husband is six-foot-plus, and he felt the space was roomy enough for him. It made great use of space and had a sleek design. I loved the lighting and the control tablet, which made it easy to control the room’s lighting, open and close curtains, and more.

As for other accommodations, the Scarlet Lady offers a range of staterooms and suites, both interior and with balconies, and RockStar Suites, which offer additional amenities such as a personal assistant and access to a private members-only lounge.

A foodie’s paradise

The food was a HUGE highlight for me.  It was unexpectedly amazing to be honest – plus, there was lots of flexibility with dining times. My favourite restaurant was The Wake. I recommend booking this restaurant for your first night, at around 7:30 p.m. (after the sail away party, which offers complimentary bubbly). Why, might you ask? If you are seated at the restaurant window, you’ll have a glorious view from the aft of the ship of the gorgeous Miami skyline at night.

The other restaurants were incredible and unique as well, for different reasons. I also really loved The Galley – a food hall that offers a variety of casual eateries, including a burger bar, a taco stand, and a sushi bar. You can book your dining 60 days out on the Virgin Voyages app.

In addition to these restaurants, the Scarlet Lady also has a number of bars and lounges, where passengers can enjoy a variety of cocktails, beers, and wines.

Speaking of cocktails – one thing that I appreciated about Virgin Voyages was that truly EVERYTHING is included. Their current promotions even include throwing in a bar tab per cabin! But rest assured, if you’re not one for cocktails, that’s ok too. There are multiple specialty coffee and smoothie stations around the ship.

Enjoy the party or sit back and relax

There are many special pop-up events and activations on the ship. On your first night, you can head to a PJ party at the Manor, and the sailing’s Scarlet Night party brings the glam and fun out of everyone. Be sure to pack something red.

My husband loved the arcade and social club – mostly because he could play all of his retro video games without spending a dollar.

We were lucky on the ship to catch the last performance of Never Sleep Alone, a show with origins in NYC. The quality of the on-ship entertainment is incredible!

Not only was the entertainment great, but the quality of wellness and fitness offerings stood out to me. Wellness is a prominent focus for Virgin. All group fitness classes are included in your fare, and there is a significant amount of space on board dedicated to physical activity – from basketball nets to boxing rings, you’ll find it on board. There’s even a medspa , complete with IV hydration therapy…let me tell you, it really works.

Even shore excursions are varied in theme – you can choose to navigate Key West yourself (like we did) or take it up a notch and go parasailing over the keys…it’s all up to you!

Important note: Once you hop on ship wifi at Terminal V, book your classes and special events asap.

The Bimini Beach Club

Bimini is one of the most enticing of Bahamian islands. Sitting on the westernmost part of the Bahamian Islands, it is the far less-visited port home to a decidedly more intimate. The sand is white and soft, and the water is clear and turquoise! Virgin’s beach club itself is small but spectacular, with a great stretch of beach, lots of lounge chairs and umbrellas, two pools (one loud, the other less loud), and several bars and dining stations. I loved this spot on our sailing, and it’s a staple for all of their Caribbean itineraries.

The final verdict? I loved it!

The ship’s focus on sustainability (no single-use plastics), wellness and inclusion stood out to me in a sea full of competition (pardon the pun). And, the elevated dining and stunning Bimini Beach Club allowed me to realize the relaxed luxe vibe they were going for.

My Top 5 Travel Tips

  1. Have dinner at The Wake at 730 pm on sail away night – the view from the aft is incredible!
  2. Bring fun pjs to wear at the PJ party on the first night.
  3. Bring something red to wear on Scarlet night.
  4. As soon as you get to Terminal V, hop on the ship wifi and book any classes or shows.
  5. Booking a tattoo? Do it on the last night. New tattoos + water and sun don’t mix.

5 Reasons Why You Should Consider a Destination Wedding

5 Reasons Why You Should Consider a Destination Wedding

Destination weddings are becoming increasingly popular, and it’s not hard to see why. These weddings offer a unique and memorable experience for couples and their guests. If you’re considering tying the knot, here are some reasons why you should have a destination wedding.

A Unique Experience

One of the biggest advantages of having a destination wedding is that it’s a unique experience. You can choose a location that holds special meaning to you and your partner, or you can opt for a stunning location that will create unforgettable memories. With a destination wedding, you can break free from the traditional wedding mold and create a celebration that reflects your personality and style.

A Chance to Travel

Another benefit of having a destination wedding is the opportunity to travel. You and your guests can explore a new place, try new foods, and immerse yourselves in a new culture. It’s an excellent way to create lifelong memories with loved ones while celebrating your marriage.

Less Stress

Planning a wedding can be stressful, but a destination wedding can actually help alleviate some of that stress. Many resorts and venues offer all-inclusive wedding packages that take care of everything from the ceremony to the reception. This means you can focus on enjoying your big day and spending time with your loved ones.

More Quality Time with Guests

When you have a destination wedding, your guests are likely to stay for a few days, or even a week, which means you’ll have more time to spend with them. You can plan group activities, meals, and excursions, which will create more meaningful experiences and allow you to connect with your guests on a deeper level.

Stunning Photos

Last but not least, a destination wedding will provide you with stunning photos that you’ll cherish for a lifetime. Whether you choose a beach, a mountain, or a cityscape as your backdrop, the photos will capture the beauty of the location and the love you share with your partner.

An Update on Construction at Beaches Negril

An Update on Construction at Beaches Negril

If you’re fan of Sandals and Beaches Resorts, you likely already know that Beaches Negril is working on oceanfront butler townhomes with private pools—talk about luxury!

Seven Mile Beach in Negril is the absolute best in Jamaica, if not the whole Caribbean, and this new room category will be the most coveted when it’s available to book.

Want to get ahead of the crowd? Book now!

In addition to the development of these new townhomes on either end of the resort, plans are in place for the construction of a brand new infinity pool, bowling alley, new Kids Club sections and food truck alley. Along with these new features in the next three years, the resort’s existing pools and common areas will see a refresh. How exciting!

When I visited Beaches Negril in October 2022, construction of the oceanfront townhomes was ongoing on opposite ends of the resort. The construction itself was not noisy or disruptive, but did impact beach views from the Calypso Cove area (Montpelier buildings).

…This leads me to reason number 99 to book with a travel advisor… They always know what room categories to book! You can read my full trip report on that family vacation.

These all new modern, light-filled Beachfront Villas and Penthouses offer an entirely new way to unwind in exquisite spaces that can accommodate your need, and are scheduled to fully operational by April 2023. Here, families and friends can enjoy full butler service, grab a quick bite in the gourmet kitchen, or savor a nightcap underneath the stars.

Let’s take look at the new room categories…

Firesky Reserve Villas

These beachfront Villas offer private living spaces unlike any other in Jamaica. Spectacular, three level interiors have been thoughtfully designed to seamlessly bring the outdoors in. From stunning panoramic views to a private courtyard and pool overlooking the crystal waters of the Caribbean Sea. Enjoy full butler service attending to your every need, grab a quick bite in the gourmet kitchen, or savor a nightcap while stargazing on the private rooftop deck.

Eventide Penthouse Collection

Taking in the moment is simple when the only distraction is the brilliant blue backdrop of the Caribbean sea. Our exquisite, light-filled penthouses are set in one building with 2 penthouses per floor. Featuring 3-4 bedrooms, a state of the art kitchen and an airy living room extending out to a waterfront veranda, it’s the perfect place for a blissful vacation.
