When it comes to luxurious, all-inclusive vacations in Barbados, Sandals has not one but two stunning options: Sandals Barbados and Sandals Royal Barbados. Both resorts offer a slice of paradise with their beautiful beaches, gourmet dining, and world-class amenities. But which one is the right choice for your next getaway?

It’s easy to get lost in the Sandals Barbados and Sandals Royal Barbados reviews. And, I’ll be the first to say that although I’m biased (collectively, these resorts are my favourite of anywhere in the Caribbean) I think Sandals knocks it out of the park with these two.

On my last trip there in May 2024 (my fourth overall), I was further impressed by what appears to be a complete renaissance of service, amenities and facilities upkeep. The employees had an extra spring in their step and the customer service was incredible.

Not only that, but fresh coats of paint, extensive updates to furnishings and landscaping really made an already stunning resort look refreshed. That alongside improvements in the culinary and specialty beverage supply chain made an impact.

So let’s get down to it…

Sandals Barbados or Sandals Royal Barbados? The Pros and Cons

Both resorts sit on the same beach and to be honest – you’d really never know you’re at two “different” resorts. I like to think of the resorts as “Phase 1” (Sandals Barbados) and “Phase 2” (Sandals Royal Barbados). You can use all of the amenities at both – Stay at One and Play at Two as Sandals likes to say – which is amazing because that increases your options to more than 20 eateries and six pools, plus all of the swim-up lagoons on property.

The Beach

Nestled on the pristine Dover Beach, this resort has a deep, white sand beach with what I call a surfers’ ocean. Personally? I love it. While it can be rough at times, the colour is a cool turquoise and it's so refreshing with the constant winds. But, for those wishing for a tranquil ocean it can be a deal breaker.

Entertainment and Amenities

The resort itself is a place where  you can find quiet and let your mind be still, or you can participate in a lively poolside game with playmaker staff. Besides the beach there are some incredible pools – a rooftop pool overlooking the island, an infinity pool facing the beach and multiple swim-up bars. Plus, there are a number of quiet pools and whirlpools throughout the resort, giving you so much choice. I will say – the Royal side has an edge for the innovative pools, bowling alley, craft beer bar, and nightly entertainment.

Spa and Wellness

If you’re a spa lover, there are not one, but two, Red Lane® Spas that offer a range of treatments to pamper yourself during your stay – and you can visit both during your stay.

Room Types

Sandals Barbados offers a variety of room categories, including luxury suites with private Tranquility Soaking Tubs on patios or balconies, swim up rooms, club and butler suites.  Sandals Royal Barbados offers only club level and butler suites, with a variety of views (garden, swim up, ocean view).  There are a few oceanfront rooms on both sides of the resort, although you. will find more availability on the Sandals Barbados side due to the resort’s layout. 

Sandals Royal Barbados features some of the most luxurious suites in the Sandals portfolio, including Skypool Suites with private infinity pools, Swim-up Suites, and Millionaire Suites.

All rooms are elegantly decorated with a Caribbean flair, ensuring a comfortable and luxurious stay, however, the Royal Barbados side rooms are more modern with light, driftwood tones .

Dining

The restaurants and eateries onsite (21 to choose from!) are fantastic. Don’t let the restaurants impact which side you stay on as you can enjoy all of them. My personal favourites are on the Sandals Barbados side – Bombay (Indian), Butches’ Chophouse (steakhouse) and Schooner’s (seafood).

Choose Sandals Barbados if:

Choose Sandals Royal Barbados if:
