It’s an exciting time for families who love all-inclusive vacations.
For years, Beaches Resorts has operated just a handful of award-winning resorts in Jamaica and Turks & Caicos. Now, that is about to change in a big way.
Sandals Resorts International has announced a nearly US$1 billion expansion of the Beaches brand, with several new resorts planned over the next few years. From the crystal-clear waters of Exuma to the beautiful beaches of Barbados and Saint Vincent, families will soon have more choices than ever before.
Here’s what we know so far.
This is the fastest way to narrow down your options — based on your travel style, budget, and priorities.
Not Sure Which Beaches Resort Is Right for You?
Take the 2-minute quiz and get matched with your perfect resort.
This insider guide breaks down Luxury, Club, and Butler levels so you can choose the right experience — not just the most expensive one.
Beaches Exuma, Bahamas
Expected Opening: 2027
The first new Beaches Resort expected to welcome guests is Beaches Exuma.
Located on the site of the former Sandals Emerald Bay, this resort will transform one of the Caribbean’s most spectacular beaches into a luxury family destination. The property will span approximately 500 acres and feature 249 accommodations, 12 restaurants, family-friendly activities, and the signature Beaches Kids Camp.
Why I’m Excited
Exuma is unlike anywhere else in the Caribbean.
Imagine:
- Water so clear it barely looks real
- Endless white-sand beaches
- Calm turquoise bays
- World-famous swimming pigs
- Incredible boating and snorkelling
Families looking for a more exclusive Bahamas experience are going to love this destination.
Beaches Barbados
Expected Opening: 2028
Barbados has long been one of my favourite Caribbean islands, so I’m thrilled to see Beaches making its debut here.
Unlike simply converting an existing resort, Beaches Barbados is being built as an entirely new family resort. Plans include approximately 600 rooms, ranging from king suites to spacious four-bedroom accommodations designed for larger families and multigenerational travel.
One feature I’m especially excited about is the planned “Main Street”, which will include:
- Restaurants
- Shopping
- Outdoor entertainment
- A sports bar
- Arcade
- Family gathering spaces
This sounds like it’ll create a lively atmosphere that extends beyond the beach and pool.
Why Barbados?
Barbados offers families:
- Excellent beaches
- Safe, welcoming culture
- Fantastic restaurants
- Catamaran cruises
- Wildlife experiences
- Easy island exploration
It fills a destination gap that Beaches has never offered before.
Beaches Runaway Bay, Jamaica
Expected Opening: 2029
Jamaica has always been the heart of the Sandals and Beaches brands.
Soon, it will welcome another exciting addition.
Beaches Runaway Bay is planned for Jamaica’s beautiful north coast between Ocho Rios and Montego Bay, giving families another option beyond Beaches Negril.
Although many details are still to come, I expect this resort to combine Beaches’ signature family programming with one of Jamaica’s most scenic stretches of coastline.
For families who love Jamaica but want something new, this will be one to watch.
Beaches Saint Vincent
Expected Opening: Around 2030
Perhaps the most exciting long-term project is Beaches Saint Vincent.
Following the success of Sandals Saint Vincent, the company has announced plans for a brand-new Beaches Resort on the island, representing an investment of approximately US$500 million and creating another major family destination in the eastern Caribbean.
Saint Vincent offers something few Caribbean islands can:
- Dramatic rainforest-covered mountains
- Black and golden sand beaches
- Waterfalls
- Sailing adventures
- Easy access to the Grenadine islands
For adventurous families who want more than just a beach vacation, this destination has enormous potential.
What Does This Mean for Families?
For years, Beaches fans had only a few resorts to choose from.
Over the next several years, that will change dramatically.
The expansion means families will soon be able to choose between destinations with completely different personalities.
- Exuma — crystal-clear water and laid-back island luxury.
- Barbados — vibrant culture, exceptional dining and modern family accommodations.
- Runaway Bay — classic Jamaican hospitality with a brand-new Beaches experience.
- Saint Vincent — lush scenery, adventure and a more off-the-beaten-path Caribbean escape.
Each resort will bring something unique to the Beaches collection, making it easier than ever to match a family’s vacation style with the right destination.
Should You Wait?
It’s a question I’ve already started hearing from clients.
If you’re planning a family vacation in the next year or two, I wouldn’t recommend postponing your trip while waiting for these new resorts to open.
Beaches Turks & Caicos and Beaches Negril remain outstanding choices, and the new Treasure Beach Village expansion at Turks & Caicos is adding even more accommodations, restaurants and family amenities.
However, if you’re planning a milestone family vacation for 2028 or beyond, it’s definitely worth keeping these exciting new resorts on your radar.
Final Thoughts
The expansion of Beaches Resorts is one of the biggest developments in Caribbean family travel in years.
With new destinations in The Bahamas, Barbados, Jamaica and Saint Vincent, families will soon have far more options than ever before—all while enjoying the all-inclusive experience Beaches is known for, including gourmet dining, kids’ clubs, waterparks, entertainment and activities for every age.
As a Beaches Specialist, I’ll be following each of these developments closely and sharing updates as more details become available. If you’re thinking about a future family vacation, I’d be happy to help you decide whether it’s worth waiting for one of these exciting new resorts—or finding the perfect Beaches vacation that’s ready to welcome you today.
