FAM Trips: How Travel Advisors Stay Ahead of the Curve

In the dynamic world of travel advising, staying ahead of the curve is a necessity. This is where familiarization trips, or fam trips, come into play. As a travel advisor, embarking on a fam trip is not just a perk; it's a strategic move to enrich our understanding of resorts, hotels, and the overall guest experience. Most importantly, it’s part of a much bigger picture that involves continuous education to learn more about destinations, suppliers and experiences so that we can confidently assist you in planning your vacations.

Fam trips involve visiting resorts, meeting with management and staff, sampling the cuisine, and immersing oneself in the unique atmosphere of each location. Essentially, it's a journey that allows travel advisors to become intimately familiar with the offerings and nuances of a property, ensuring we can provide the most informed recommendations to clients.

They also offer travel advisors an immersive experience that goes beyond glossy brochures and online reviews. By physically visiting a resort, we can gain a deeper understanding of the property's layout, amenities, and ambiance, which enables us to provide accurate and personalized recommendations.

What’s Involved in a Fam Trip?

Room and Venue Tours

I typically engage in on-site inspections of various facilities. This involves touring rooms, common areas, recreational spaces, and other amenities to get a comprehensive feel for the property. Along the way, I take many photos (some for my social media, but many just for personal reference to file away with specific notes about room categories, and who they would be best suited for).

Meeting Management and Staff

Building relationships with the people who run the show is a significant aspect of fam trips. Advisors often have the chance to meet the management, chefs, concierge, and other key personnel, creating a network that can be invaluable in the future. These connections can be instrumental in ensuring seamless experiences for future clients. Knowing the faces behind the scenes allows us to better advocate for clients and resolve any issues that may arise.

Experiencing the Vibe Firsthand

Fam trips go beyond the physical aspects of a property. Advisors immerse themselves in the atmosphere and vibe of the destination, ensuring that they can accurately convey the unique experience each place offers. In a way, these site inspections act as a form of quality assurance. By experiencing the services, accommodations, and cuisine firsthand, we can ensure that the offerings meet the standards expected for our clients. This firsthand knowledge allows for honest and reliable recommendations.

By investing time and effort in experiencing destinations firsthand, we are able to elevate our expertise as travel advisors and provide unparalleled value to clients. Book a call with Pink Palm Travel when you’re ready to plan your next vacation!
