Sandals royal plantation Resort Guide
Sandals Royal Plantation is an adults-only, all-inclusive boutique resort in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. With an intimate oceanfront setting, all-Butler accommodations and a peaceful atmosphere, it offers a very different experience from the larger Sandals Resorts.
This is one of my favourite choices for couples who want to slow down. The resort is small, elegant and relaxed, with beautiful ocean views and two intimate beaches tucked into secluded coves.
But staying somewhere peaceful doesn’t mean you have to give up variety.
Guests can visit nearby Sandals Ochi when they want more restaurants, pools, entertainment or nightlife. Your Butler can also assist with arranging an evening at Sandals Dunn’s River, giving you the opportunity to experience another one of my favourite Sandals properties during your stay.
One important thing to know before choosing your suite: some rooms at Sandals Royal Plantation have Juliet balconies rather than full balconies you can sit on. If private outdoor space is important to you, room selection matters.

Sandals Royal Plantation may not be my first recommendation if you want a large resort with numerous pools, restaurants and entertainment venues immediately outside your room. That’s not really what Royal Plantation is designed to be.
Its strength is the opposite: an intimate, peaceful resort where service and relaxation are at the centre of the experience. When you want more action, Sandals Ochi is nearby.
Sandals Royal plantation Resort Highlights
Sandals Royal Plantation is one of the smallest and most intimate resorts in the Sandals collection.
Instead of trying to offer dozens of restaurants, enormous pools and a sprawling property, Royal Plantation focuses on a boutique experience with oceanfront accommodations, personalized Butler service and a relaxed atmosphere.
Every suite includes Butler service, so there’s no decision to make between Luxury, Club and Butler Level here.
The resort’s smaller scale is one of its greatest advantages. You can settle into a favourite spot on the beach, enjoy a leisurely lunch overlooking the water and genuinely feel like you’ve escaped the pace of everyday life.
Then, when you’re ready for something different, you have options. Guests can visit Sandals Ochi for a much livelier resort experience with additional restaurants, pools, bars and entertainment. Your Butler can also help arrange an evening at Sandals Dunn’s River if you’d like to experience its dining.
It gives you the best of both worlds: a quiet boutique resort as your home base with larger Sandals experiences nearby.
JEN’S TIP
Pay close attention to the balcony description when choosing your suite. Some accommodations have Juliet balconies rather than full balconies with outdoor seating. If having coffee outside in the morning or sitting on your balcony with a drink is part of how you picture your vacation, make sure your exact room category gives you the outdoor space you want.
Best Rooms at Sandals ROYAL plantation
Room selection at Sandals Royal Plantation works a little differently because every accommodation includes Butler service and an oceanfront setting. Instead of deciding whether Butler service is worth the upgrade, I’d focus on suite size, location, layout and outdoor space. These are three of my favourite options.
BEST VALUE
Viceroy Honeymoon Oceanfront Butler Suite
The Viceroy Honeymoon Oceanfront Butler Suite is one of my favourite ways to experience Royal Plantation without moving into one of the resort’s larger suites. You still get the features that make this property special: an oceanfront setting, an intimate boutique resort and personalized Butler service throughout your stay.
For couples who expect to spend most of their time at the beach, dining or enjoying the resort rather than in their suite, this can be a great place to start.
Best for extra space
Imperial Oceanfront One Bedroom Butler Suite
If having a separate bedroom and living space matters to you, the Imperial Oceanfront One Bedroom Butler Suite is one of my favourite upgrades. The one-bedroom layout gives you more room to settle in and makes the suite feel like a genuine retreat rather than simply somewhere to sleep.
It’s a particularly good option for a longer stay, honeymoon or anniversary when you know you’ll spend more time relaxing in your suite.
Best for GROUPS
Villa Plantana
Villa Plantana is for couples who want an entirely different level of luxury and plan on bringing others with them. This private villa experience gives you a more secluded home base while retaining access to the service, dining and amenities of Sandals Royal Plantation.
For groups who want an incredible Jamaica villa experience, Villa Plantana is the accommodation I’d look at.

How Does Butler Service Work at Sandals Royal Plantation?
There’s no need to ask whether Butler service is worth upgrading to at Sandals Royal Plantation. Every room comes with it.
That’s an important distinction between Royal Plantation and most other Sandals Resorts. Butler service isn’t reserved for a small collection of top-tier suites — it’s part of the experience throughout the property.
Your Butler can assist with things like dining arrangements, your daily resort routine and special requests during your stay.
There’s another advantage here too: your Butler can help you take advantage of experiences beyond Royal Plantation, including arranging an evening to dine at Sandals Dunn’s River.

MY TAKE
WHAT IS SANDALS ROYAL PLANTATION REALLY LIKE?
Peaceful.
That’s the word I’d use to describe Sandals Royal Plantation.
It doesn’t try to compete with the huge pools, endless restaurant lists or high-energy entertainment of the larger Sandals Resorts. Instead, the appeal is the intimate scale, beautiful oceanfront setting and personalized service.
This is somewhere I’d choose when the goal of the vacation is to genuinely relax.
Spend the morning at the beach. Have a long lunch. Read. Have a drink overlooking the water. Let your Butler take care of the details.
And then, if one evening you decide you want more energy, go to Sandals Ochi.
That flexibility is one of the things I really like about Royal Plantation. You don’t have to choose between a quiet boutique resort and a livelier Sandals experience. You can stay somewhere intimate and visit somewhere lively when the mood strikes.
I’d also make time for dinner at Sandals Dunn’s River during your stay. Speak with your Butler about arranging it.
My biggest caution is room selection. Some suites only have Juliet balconies. The ocean views can still be beautiful, but if you’re picturing yourself actually sitting outside on a private balcony, make sure we choose the right category.
THE BEACH
TWO INTIMATE COVE BEACHES
The beach experience at Sandals Royal Plantation matches the resort itself: intimate and relaxed. Rather than one enormous stretch of sand, the resort has two private-feeling cove beaches where you can settle in for the day.
If your dream beach requires a very long stretch of sand for extended walks, there are other Sandals Resorts I’d consider first. But, if you love the idea of a beautiful, intimate cove where you can find your spot and settle in with a book and a drink, Royal Plantation is a great fit.
EAT & DRINK
DINING AT SANDALS ROYAL plantation
Dining at Sandals Royal Plantation follows the same philosophy as the rest of the resort: fewer choices than the biggest Sandals properties, but a more intimate experience. And, you aren’t limited to the restaurants at Royal Plantation.
When you want more variety, you can take advantage of access to Sandals Ochi. Your Butler can also assist with arranging an evening at Sandals Dunn’s River. These are three restaurants I’d put on my list.

Use Royal Plantation as your peaceful home base, then take advantage of the other Sandals experiences nearby. Spend an evening at Sandals Ochi when you want more energy, entertainment and nightlife, and ask your Butler about arranging dinner at Sandals Dunn’s River. Then, come home to the quiet of Royal Plantation. That combination is one of the best reasons to choose this resort.
