Sandals OCHI Resort Guide
Sandals Ochi is an adults-only, all-inclusive resort in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, known for its huge variety of rooms, pools, restaurants and entertainment. It’s one of the larger Sandals Resorts in Jamaica, and that scale gives couples plenty of choice in both where they stay and how they spend their vacation.
The resort has two distinctly different sides. There’s the beachside experience closer to the Caribbean Sea, and the hillside Butler Village, where you’ll find lush tropical surroundings, villa-style accommodations and private-pool suites. That variety is one of Sandals Ochi’s biggest strengths — but it also means choosing the right room location is especially important.
Sandals Ochi is a great match for couples who want plenty to do, lots of dining choices and a more social, energetic Sandals experience. And if you want to change things up, guests can also visit nearby Sandals Dunn’s River for dinner.

Who Is Sandals OCHI Best For?
I recommend Sandals Ochi for:
- Couples who want a lively Sandals Resort
- Travellers who like having lots of restaurants and bars to choose from
- Couples who enjoy a larger resort with plenty to explore
- Travellers looking for good value within the Sandals collection
- Couples who want a villa-style experience
- Travellers interested in private-pool accommodations
- Couples who enjoy nightlife and evening entertainment
- Groups travelling together who want plenty of options
- Repeat Sandals guests who want a completely different experience from the smaller resorts
- Couples who like having access to another Sandals Resort
Sandals Ochi may not be my first recommendation if you want a small, intimate resort where everything is within a few steps of your room. This is a large property, and the different areas of the resort have very different personalities. That’s part of the appeal — but it makes understanding the resort layout especially important before you book.
Sandals OCHI Resort Highlights
Sandals Ochi is all about options. Rather than offering one uniform resort experience, the property is divided into distinct areas. You can stay closer to the beach and the activity surrounding it, or choose the lush hillside setting of the Butler Village.
The hillside is where Sandals Ochi becomes particularly interesting. Villa-style accommodations are tucked into tropical surroundings, and some categories include private or semi-private pool experiences. It can feel surprisingly secluded considering how large and lively the overall resort is.
Then there’s the dining. Sandals Ochi has an extensive selection of restaurants, which makes it particularly well suited to a seven-night stay. You can try somewhere different each evening rather than repeating the same few restaurants throughout your vacation.
There’s also plenty happening after dinner. If nightlife and entertainment are important to you, Ochi offers considerably more energy than quieter Jamaican Sandals properties such as Royal Plantation. The speakeasy is a must visit!
JEN’S TIP
Study the Sandals Ochi resort map before choosing your room. First decide whether you want to be beachside or up in the hillside villa area. Then choose the room category and service level that make sense within that part of the resort. Location can have a bigger impact on your vacation than the difference between two similarly priced rooms.
Best Rooms at Sandals OCHI
Sandals Ochi has an enormous range of accommodations, which can make choosing a room feel overwhelming. I’d start with the experience you want. Do you want a good-value Club Level room near a pool? A larger Butler suite in the villa area? Or do you want to make your room part of the vacation with a private pool? These are three of my favourite options.

BEST FOR VALUE
Poolside Club Level Villa Room
The Poolside Club Level Villa Room is one of my favourite ways to experience Sandals Ochi without moving into Butler pricing. You get the atmosphere of the villa area along with a poolside setting and Club Sandals amenities.
For couples who want something more interesting than a standard hotel-style room but don’t need a large Butler suite or private pool, the NPV offers a nice balance. It also allows you to put more of your vacation budget toward the trip itself rather than automatically upgrading to one of Ochi’s premium categories.

Best for EXTRA SPACE
One Bedroom Poolside Butler Villa Estate Suite
The One Bedroom Poolside Butler Villa Estate Suite is one of my favourite choices for couples who want the villa experience with more space. A separate one-bedroom layout gives you more of a residential feel, while the poolside setting connects you to the relaxed atmosphere of the Butler Village.
This is the category I’d look at when you want the extra space and personalized Butler service but don’t necessarily need your own private pool.

Best for A private pool
Butler Village Honeymoon Romeo & Juliet One Bedroom Villa Suite with Private Pool Sanctuary
If privacy is the priority, the Romeo & Juliet One Bedroom Villa Suite is one of the standout room categories at Sandals Ochi. The private pool sanctuary completely changes the experience.
Instead of heading out every time you want to swim or relax by the water, you have your own private space built into the villa experience.

Is Butler Service Worth It at Sandals OCHI?
This is one resort where Butler service can make a lot of sense — particularly if you want the full Butler Village experience. The reason isn’t simply the service. Some of the most interesting accommodations at Sandals Ochi are found within the Butler categories, including spacious villa suites and private-pool sanctuaries.
I’d consider a Butler suite if:
- You want to stay in one of the Butler Village suites
- You want a separate one-bedroom layout
- You specifically want a private pool
- You’re celebrating a honeymoon or milestone anniversary
- You value personalized service at a large resort
- You want assistance with dining arrangements and your daily resort routine
- You want your accommodation to feel like a retreat from the busier areas of the resort
If you expect to spend most of your vacation exploring the resort, eating at different restaurants, visiting the pools and enjoying the entertainment, a well-chosen Club Level room can also offer excellent value.

MY TAKE
WHAT IS SANDALS OCHI REALLY LIKE?
Big, lively and full of options.
That’s how I’d describe Sandals Ochi.
This is not the Sandals I’d choose if you told me you wanted a tiny boutique resort where you could walk from your room to every restaurant in two minutes.
I’d choose Ochi because you like variety.
You want different pools. Lots of restaurants. Entertainment. Bars. Different areas to explore. And you don’t mind moving around the resort to experience all of it.
What I find particularly interesting is how different the experience can feel depending on where you stay.
The beachside areas put you closer to the Caribbean Sea and more of the activity, while the hillside villas can feel much more tropical and tucked away.
Book one of the private-pool Butler villas and you can have a surprisingly private experience inside one of the largest and liveliest Sandals Resorts.
That contrast is part of what makes Ochi unique.
It’s also one of the reasons I think room selection matters more here than at many other Sandals properties.
THE BEACH
CHOOSE OCHI FOR MORE THAN THE BEACH
Sandals Ochi has a Caribbean beachfront, but I wouldn’t choose this resort based on the beach alone. If you tell me your number-one priority is a long, spectacular Jamaican beach, I’m more likely to point you toward Sandals Negril or Sandals South Coast.
Ochi’s strength is the complete resort experience. You have the beach, but you also have pools, restaurants, bars, entertainment and the lush hillside villa areas. For couples who like to alternate between the beach and the rest of the resort rather than spending every day in the same beach chair, that can work extremely well.
EAT & DRINK
DINING AT SANDALS OCHI
One of the biggest advantages of staying at a resort as large as Sandals Ochi is dining variety. There are enough choices that food can become part of exploring the resort rather than simply deciding where to have dinner. These are three of my favourites.
JEN’S TIP
At Sandals Ochi, choose your location before you choose your room category. If you want to be closer to the beach and activity, look at the beachside accommodations. If the idea of tropical gardens, villa-style accommodations and a more private home base appeals to you, look closely at the hillside and Butler Village.
