Sandals BARBADOS Resort Guide
Sandals Barbados is an adults-only, all-inclusive resort located on Dover Beach in the lively St. Lawrence Gap area of Barbados. It’s one of my favourite Sandals Resorts — particularly for couples who want plenty of restaurants, pools, entertainment and things to do without sacrificing a beautiful Caribbean beach.
One of the biggest advantages of staying here is that Sandals Barbados and neighbouring Sandals Royal Barbados operate as one connected resort experience. Guests can move freely between the two properties and enjoy the restaurants, pools, bars and amenities at both.
That means you can stay in a room at this resort while still enjoying many of the newer amenities at Sandals Royal Barbados, including its rooftop pool and additional dining options.
Why You’ll Love Sandals BARBADOS
AN INSIDER’S LOOK
- Stay at one Sandals resort and play at two
- Directly on beautiful Dover Beach
- Access to the restaurants, pools, bars and amenities at both Sandals Barbados and Sandals Royal Barbados
- Exceptional dining variety across the two resorts
- Multiple pools and lively social areas
- Rooftop pool at neighbouring Sandals Royal Barbados
- Included water sports and scuba diving for certified divers
- Plenty of entertainment throughout the week
- Located in the popular St. Lawrence Gap area
- Approximately 15 minutes from Grantley Adams International Airport
- Excellent choice for couples who like having lots of options without needing to leave the resort

Who Is Sandals barbados Best For?
I recommend this resort for:
- Couples who want lots of restaurants, bars and entertainment
- Travellers who like a larger resort with plenty to explore
- Couples who want access to two Sandals Resorts in one vacation
- Foodies who prioritize dining variety
- Couples who enjoy a social, energetic resort atmosphere
- Travellers who want a short transfer from the airport
- Repeat Sandals guests looking for a resort with plenty of variety
- Couples who want a beautiful beach but also care about pools, restaurants and resort amenities
Sandals Barbados may not be my first recommendation if your priority is a very quiet, secluded resort or consistently calm, protected swimming conditions. Dover Beach is beautiful, but the water can occasionally be quite active.
Sandals barbados Resort Highlights
One of the things that makes this resort so appealing is the sheer amount of choice.
Sandals Barbados was the original resort on the property, with Sandals Royal Barbados later developed directly alongside it.
Today, the two properties connect so seamlessly that most guests experience them as one expansive resort rather than two distinctly separate hotels.
Stay at Sandals Barbados and you can walk over to Sandals Royal Barbados for dinner, spend time at the rooftop pool, visit another bar or simply explore a different part of the property.
This gives you the advantage of choosing the Sandals Barbados room category you prefer while still having access to the expanded amenities and experiences next door.
JEN’S TIP
Don’t assume you need to stay at Sandals Royal Barbados to enjoy its amenities. I often recommend choosing your room based on the specific location and room category you love most rather than which side of the resort it happens to be on.
Best Rooms at Sandals BARBADOS
There are several room categories I particularly like at this resort, ranging from excellent-value walkout accommodations to spacious Butler suites. And, this is one resort where I don’t think you need Butler service simply to have a great experience. I’d choose your room based on location, layout and the features that matter most to you.

BEST VALUE
Caribbean Grand Luxe Walkout
The Caribbean Grand Luxe Walkout is one of my favourite value options. If you like the convenience of walking straight outside from your room instead of navigating hallways and elevators, this is a category worth considering.
It’s a great example of why I don’t automatically recommend upgrading to Butler level at this resort. You can choose a well-located room and still have access to the enormous range of amenities across both Sandals Barbados and Sandals Royal Barbados.

Best for BEACH LOVERS
Beachfront Club Level Suite with Balcony Tranquility Soaking Tub
If an ocean view is high on your wish list, the Beachfront Club Level Suite with Balcony Tranquility Soaking Tub is one of my favourite choices.
You’ll have a beachfront location, private balcony and Tranquility Soaking Tub, along with Club Sandals amenities. It gives you an elevated room experience without necessarily moving into Butler-level pricing.

Best for A SPLURGE
Crystal Lagoon Swim-Up One Bedroom Butler Suite with Patio Tranquility Soaking Tub
If you do want to splurge, the Crystal Lagoon Swim-Up One Bedroom Butler Suite is the kind of room that makes Butler service worthwhile.
You’re getting more than upgraded service here — you’re choosing a one-bedroom suite with direct swim-up access and a private patio with a Tranquility Soaking Tub. For a honeymoon, anniversary or special occasion, this is one of my favourite room categories.

Is Butler Service Worth It at Sandals Barbados?
Not necessarily. This is one of the resorts where I’m perfectly comfortable recommending Luxury or Club Level accommodations if the room and location are right for you.
I’m more likely to recommend a Butler suite if:
- You specifically want a room category that includes Butler service
- You want a swim-up or larger one-bedroom suite
- You’re celebrating a honeymoon or milestone anniversary
- You value personalized service throughout your vacation
- You want assistance with dining arrangements and your daily resort routine
- The room itself is an important part of your vacation experience
Otherwise, I’d rather help you find the best room for your budget than upgrade you to Butler service simply for the sake of having a Butler.

MY TAKE
WHAT IS SANDALS BARBADOS REALLY LIKE?
This resort is one of my absolute favourite Sandals Resorts.
What I love most is the variety. Because Sandals Barbados and Sandals Royal Barbados are directly connected, you effectively have an enormous resort playground with restaurants, pools, bars and entertainment spread across both properties.
There’s enough happening that a seven-night stay doesn’t feel repetitive.
The atmosphere is livelier than resorts such as Sandals Grande Antigua, but I wouldn’t describe it as a party resort. Instead, it works well for couples who like having choices: spend the afternoon on the beach, head to a pool, have cocktails somewhere completely different, try a new restaurant for dinner and find entertainment afterward.
And you don’t have to spend your entire vacation figuring out where one resort ends and the other begins. Both sides feel like two parts of one larger resort experience, with each adding different rooms, restaurants, pools and amenities to the overall property.
For me, that’s one of the biggest reasons to choose Barbados.
THE BEACH
BEAUTIFUL, BUT EXPECT SOME WAVES
Sandals Barbados sits directly on Dover Beach, a beautiful stretch of white sand with gorgeous turquoise water. There are plenty of loungers, and the beach itself is one of the reasons I enjoy this resort so much.
One thing to understand before booking is that this can be a more active beach. Depending on conditions, the waves can be considerably higher than what you might experience at some other Sandals Resorts. I sometimes describe it as more of a surfer’s beach than a perfectly calm swimming beach. That doesn’t make it any less beautiful — the water is gorgeous — but if calm, glass-like water is your number-one priority, I’d take that into consideration when comparing Sandals Resorts.
EAT & DRINK
DINING AT SANDALS barbados
Dining is one of the strongest reasons to choose this resort. Because you have access to restaurants across both Sandals Barbados and Sandals Royal Barbados, there is an exceptional amount of variety for a seven-night vacation. You can easily eat somewhere different every evening — and still have restaurants left to try. These are three I’d put on my list.
JEN’S TIP
Take advantage of the entire resort. Some guests naturally settle into the pool, bar and restaurants closest to their room, but one of the best parts of staying here is having both the Barbados and Royal Barbados resorts to explore. Make a point of experiencing both sides during your stay.
