Sandals royal BARBADOS Resort Guide
Sandals Royal Barbados is an adults-only, all-inclusive resort located on Dover Beach in the lively St. Lawrence Gap area of Barbados. Modern rooms, unique suites, a rooftop pool and an enormous selection of restaurants make it one of the most amenity-rich Sandals Resorts in the Caribbean.
One of its biggest advantages is its direct connection to neighbouring Sandals Barbados. Guests at either resort have full access to the restaurants, pools, bars and amenities across both properties, creating one large resort experience with plenty to explore.
If you’re deciding between Sandals Barbados and Sandals Royal Barbados, I generally recommend focusing on the room category you prefer. Once you step outside your room, you can enjoy both resorts.

Who Is Sandals royal barbados Best For?
I recommend Sandals Royal Barbados for:
- Couples who prefer modern rooms and contemporary resort design
- Travellers who want lots of restaurants, bars and activities
- Couples who enjoy a lively resort with plenty happening throughout the day and evening
- Foodies who want plenty of dining variety
- Couples looking for swim-up rooms or unique Butler suites
- Honeymooners who want a more elevated room category
- Travellers who love pools and want to experience the rooftop pool
- Couples who want entertainment without choosing a traditional party resort
- Repeat Sandals guests looking for something different
Sandals Royal Barbados may not be my first recommendation if you want a small, intimate resort or a very quiet Caribbean escape. There is a lot happening here, and the combined property feels considerably larger than some other Sandals Resorts.
Sandals Royal barbados Resort Highlights
Sandals Royal Barbados takes the already extensive Sandals Barbados experience and adds another collection of rooms, restaurants, pools and amenities.
The two resorts sit directly beside one another and connect seamlessly. You can have breakfast at one, spend the afternoon at the pool on the other side and head somewhere completely different for dinner without ever feeling like you’ve left the resort.
Royal Barbados is the newer side of the property and has a more contemporary feel. It’s also where you’ll find some of the combined resort’s most distinctive features, including the rooftop pool and Lovers Lanes bowling alley.
The result is one of the most varied Sandals experiences. There’s plenty to do, but you can still spend an entire afternoon doing absolutely nothing on Dover Beach.
JEN’S TIP
Don’t get too caught up in choosing between Sandals Barbados and Sandals Royal Barbados based on amenities. You’ll have access to both. Instead, compare the individual room categories and choose the accommodation that best fits how you want to vacation.
Best Rooms at Sandals ROYAL BARBADOS
Sandals Royal Barbados has some fantastic room categories, including Club Level suites, swim-up accommodations and the iconic Rondoval suites. The key is deciding which features you’ll actually use. You don’t necessarily need to book the most expensive suite to have an incredible experience here.

BEST VALUE
South Seas Club Level Junior Palm Suite with Outdoor Tranquility Soaking Tub
The South Seas Club Level Junior Palm Suite is one of my favourite choices for couples who want an upgraded room without moving into Butler-level pricing.
The outdoor Tranquility Soaking Tub adds something special to the room, while Club Sandals amenities give you concierge service and additional conveniences during your stay.
For many couples, this category provides a great balance between room experience and overall vacation budget.

Best for SWIM-UP LOVERS
Royal Seaside Swim-Up Club Level Ultra Suite with Patio Tranquility Soaking Tub
If having direct pool access from your room is on your Sandals wish list, the Royal Seaside Swim-Up Club Level Ultra Suite is one of my favourite options.
You can step directly from your patio into the swim-up pool while still having your own outdoor Tranquility Soaking Tub.
It’s also Club Level rather than Butler Level, making it an interesting choice for couples who care more about having a swim-up room than having personalized Butler service.

Best for A SPLURGE
South Seas Royal Rondoval Butler Suite with Private Pool Sanctuary
The South Seas Royal Rondoval Butler Suite with Private Pool Sanctuary is the room I’d look at when the accommodation itself is meant to be part of the experience.
The round Rondoval design creates a completely different atmosphere from a traditional hotel room, while your private pool sanctuary gives you somewhere to retreat when you want time away from the main resort.
For a honeymoon, milestone anniversary or special celebration, this is one of the standout accommodations at Sandals Royal Barbados.

Is Butler Service Worth It at Sandals royal Barbados?
It depends on the room you want. I’m more likely to recommend Butler service at Sandals Royal Barbados when the suite itself is the reason for upgrading.
I’d consider a Butler suite if:
- You want one of the resort’s premium or unique suite categories
- You want a private pool or Rondoval suite
- You’re celebrating a honeymoon or milestone anniversary
- You value personalized service throughout your stay
- You want assistance with dining arrangements and your daily resort routine
- You plan to spend significant time enjoying your suite
But if you’re drawn to a Club Level room or swim-up suite, I wouldn’t upgrade simply to get Butler service. There are excellent non-Butler accommodations at this resort.

MY TAKE
WHAT IS SANDALS ROYAL BARBADOS REALLY LIKE?
Sandals Royal Barbados feels modern, lively and packed with things to do.
What makes it particularly appealing is that you aren’t limited to Royal Barbados. Walk a few minutes and you’re exploring Sandals Barbados, with even more restaurants, pools and bars available to you.
The two properties function exceptionally well together. Sandals Barbados brings the established tropical resort atmosphere, while Royal Barbados adds newer accommodations and some of the more distinctive, modern amenities.
One of my favourite spots is the rooftop pool. Make sure you visit during the day, but come back in the evening too. The atmosphere changes after dark, and it’s worth experiencing both.
There’s also one very practical packing tip I give clients staying here: bring socks.
Lovers Lanes bowling alley is included with your stay, and you’ll need socks if you want to bowl. It’s an easy thing to forget when you’re packing for a Caribbean vacation.
THE BEACH
BEAUTIFUL DOVER BEACH
Sandals Royal Barbados shares beautiful Dover Beach with Sandals Barbados. Expect white sand, gorgeous turquoise water and plenty of loungers for spending the day by the sea.
The important thing to know is that the water can be more active here than at some Sandals Resorts. Depending on conditions, you may encounter larger waves rather than consistently calm, protected water. I sometimes describe this as more of a surfer’s beach. It’s beautiful, but if calm swimming water is one of your most important resort criteria, it’s something I’d consider when comparing Sandals properties.
For couples who divide their time between the beach and the resort’s many pools, restaurants and activities, it works particularly well.
EAT & DRINK
DINING AT SANDALS ROYAL barbados
Come hungry. Dining is one of the biggest advantages of choosing Sandals Royal Barbados because you have access to restaurants across both Royal Barbados and Sandals Barbados. There is enough variety to try something completely different each night of a seven-night stay — and still not experience everything. These are three restaurants I’d put on my list.
JEN’S TIP
Visit the rooftop more than once. Go during the day to enjoy the pool and views, then return in the evening when the atmosphere changes completely. And, pack socks. It sounds ridiculous on a Caribbean packing list, but you’ll be glad you have them when you decide to go bowling at Lovers Lanes.
