Formerly known as Sandals Royal Caribbean, the resort has been refreshed and reimagined as Sandals Jamaica Caribbean Cay, bringing a fresh new look to a longtime Sandals favourite.
This is a great choice for couples who want a resort that feels fresh and updated without giving up the established tropical character that made the former Sandals Royal Caribbean so popular.
The resort combines beautiful beachfront areas, tropical gardens, modernized accommodations and its signature private offshore island. Add an easy airport transfer and a great selection of restaurants, and Sandals Jamaica Caribbean Cay works particularly well for couples who want to start enjoying their vacation almost immediately after landing in Jamaica.

Sandals Jamaica Caribbean Cay may not be my first recommendation if you want a completely secluded resort far removed from Montego Bay or if you prefer a sprawling property with a long transfer into a more remote part of Jamaica. Its convenience is part of the appeal. You can land at MBJ and be settling into your resort vacation shortly afterward.

Sandals Jamaica Caribbean Cay represents a new chapter for the resort many longtime Sandals guests knew as Sandals Royal Caribbean.
The property has been refreshed and reimagined while retaining some of the features that have always made this Montego Bay resort distinctive, including its tropical setting and private offshore island.
Its location is also a major advantage.
At approximately 15 minutes from Sangster International Airport, Sandals Jamaica Caribbean Cay is one of the easiest Sandals Resorts to reach after arriving in Jamaica. That can be especially valuable for a shorter vacation when you want to maximize your time at the resort.
Once you arrive, you have a mix of beachfront areas, pools, tropical gardens, restaurants and the private island to explore.
The refreshed accommodations also give couples a wide range of choices, from well-priced Club Level rooms to beachfront swim-up suites and impressive new Skypool Butler accommodations.
JEN’S TIP
Don’t automatically assume you need to book the highest room category because the resort has some incredible new suites. There are excellent Club Level options here too. I’d choose based on the experience you want: walkout convenience, beachfront location, swim-up access or a true splurge like a Skypool suite, or an overwater villa or bungalow.
Best Rooms at Sandals Jamaica Caribbean Cay
Choosing the right room at Sandals Jamaica Caribbean Cay can significantly change your experience because the resort offers very different accommodation styles. You can choose a convenient walkout suite, prioritize the beach, opt for direct swim-up access or make the room itself a major part of the vacation with one of the resort’s new Skypool Butler suites. These are three of my favourite choices.
BEST VALUE
Romeo & Juliet Walkout Club Suite with Patio Tranquility Soaking Tub
The Romeo & Juliet Walkout Club Suite is one of my favourite options for couples who want an upgraded room without moving into Butler-level pricing.
I particularly like the walkout access. Being able to step directly outside from your room adds a level of convenience that can be surprisingly valuable during a resort vacation.
The patio Tranquility Soaking Tub gives you your own outdoor space to relax, while Club Sandals amenities add concierge service and additional conveniences during your stay.
Best for beach lovers
Royal Beachfront Club Suite with Balcony Tranquility Soaking Tub
If proximity to the Caribbean Sea is one of your biggest priorities, the Royal Beachfront Club Suite is one of my favourite choices.
You get a beachfront location along with a private balcony and Tranquility Soaking Tub, giving you somewhere to enjoy the tropical setting without leaving your room.
It’s also Club Level rather than Butler Level, making it a strong choice for couples who would rather put their budget toward location than Butler service.
Best for a splurge
Beachfront Skypool Butler One-Bedroom Suite
The Beachfront Skypool Butler One-Bedroom Suite is the room I’d consider when the accommodation itself is meant to be a major part of the vacation.
With a one-bedroom layout, beachfront setting and private Skypool experience, this is a completely different level of accommodation from a traditional resort room.
With personalized Butler service, you have a standout choice for a honeymoon, milestone anniversary or special celebration.

Is Butler Service Worth It at Sandals Jamaica Caribbean Cay?
Not necessarily. Sandals Jamaica Caribbean Cay has some impressive Butler accommodations, particularly the Beachfront Skypool suites, but it also has excellent Club Level rooms.
I’d consider a Butler suite if:
- You specifically want one of the Skypool suites or overwater villas/bungalows
- You want a larger one-bedroom accommodation
- You’re celebrating a honeymoon or milestone anniversary
- You value personalized service throughout your stay
- You want assistance with dining arrangements and your daily resort routine
- Your room is going to be an important part of your vacation experience
If your priority is a standout room category that’s Instagram-worthy, then I’d splurge for the Butler suite.

WHAT IS SANDALS JAMAICA CARIBBEAN CAY REALLY LIKE?
Sandals Jamaica Caribbean Cay feels like a fresh take on a longtime Montego Bay favourite.
If you remember Sandals Royal Caribbean, this is the resort’s next chapter. The refresh gives the property an updated feel while retaining the tropical setting and private-island experience that have always made it distinctive.
I also really like the convenience.
You’re only about 15 minutes from MBJ, which means there’s very little time between landing in Jamaica and starting your vacation. That’s something I particularly value for shorter stays.
There’s also enough variety here to keep a seven-night stay interesting. You can spend one day by the beach, another around the pool and another exploring the private offshore island.
And the new room categories give you plenty of choice.
You don’t need to spend Skypool-suite money to enjoy this resort, but if you’re looking for a special room for a honeymoon or anniversary, the new accommodations give you some very tempting options.
THE BEACH
A CLASSIC MONTEGO BAY ESCAPE
The beach at Sandals Jamaica Caribbean Cay is part of the overall appeal rather than the only reason to choose the resort. You have beautiful Caribbean water, sandy areas for relaxing and the added advantage of being able to head over to the resort’s private offshore island for a change of scenery.
Rather than spending every day in exactly the same beach chair, I’d make a point of exploring the resort and spending some time on the private island too.

Take advantage of how easy this resort is to reach. With Sandals Jamaica Caribbean Cay only about 15 minutes from MBJ, it’s particularly well suited to shorter stays when you don’t want to spend hours of your first and last vacation days in a transfer. And don’t forget the private island. It’s part of what made the former Sandals Royal Caribbean special, and it remains one of the experiences I’d make time for at Sandals Jamaica Caribbean Cay.
