One of the most common questions I get as a certified Sandals and Beaches specialist is:

“Is it better to book direct, or with a vacation package?”

The short answer is that it depends on your priorities.

Both options are excellent, but they work very differently. Knowing when to book direct versus when to book a vacation package can save you money, give you more flexibility, and help you secure the exact vacation you want.

Booking Sandals and Beaches Resorts Direct: Who It’s Best For

Booking directly with Sandals Resorts or Beaches Resorts offers the most flexibility and long-term planning advantages.

Pros of Booking Direct

You can apply new sales before final payment
This is one of the biggest advantages. Sandals releases its well-known 777 offer every Wednesday, featuring rotating room categories on sale. If a new discount becomes available before your final payment date, it can often be applied even after you have booked.

Greater flexibility for changes
Room changes, date adjustments, and other modifications are generally easier when booking direct, especially prior to final payment.

Ability to use Sandals Select points
Ideal for repeat Sandals and Beaches guests who want to maximize loyalty benefits.

Low refundable deposit
A refundable deposit of $400 USD per reservation, subject to Sandals’ cancellation policies. The final payment is due 60 days prior to travel (although Sandals Loyalty bookings, which have lower non-refundable deposits of $250 USD per reservation, are due 90 days prior to travel).

Ability to book far in advance
You can often book years ahead, depending on inventory. This is especially helpful if you want a specific room category, Butler or Club Level accommodations, or are planning a milestone trip.

On-site booking incentives
If you are already staying at a Sandals or Beaches Resort, you can book your next vacation at the Loyalty and Travel Desk and often receive additional discounts.

Cons of Booking Direct

Pricing is in USD
For Canadian travellers, paying in U.S. dollars may not be ideal, particularly if you prefer budgeting in Canadian currency.

Booking a Vacation Package: Who It’s Best For

Vacation packages, such as those offered through Air Canada Vacations, or another tour operator, are best for travellers who value simplicity and price certainty.

Pros of Booking a Vacation Package

Flights are included
Everything is bundled into one reservation, making planning straightforward.

Locked-in price in Canadian dollars
There are no currency exchange fluctuations to worry about.

Lower upfront deposit
Typically $250 CAD per person, which can make budgeting easier. The final payment is due 45 days prior to travel.

Often a lower overall price
In many cases, the total cost of a vacation package can be lower than booking the resort and flights separately when you factor in the U.S. and Canadian exchange rate.

Cons of Booking a Vacation Package

Non-refundable deposit
Once paid, the deposit is non-refundable.

Limited flexibility
Changes and cancellations are often restrictive, even before final payment.

Reduced room category availability
Room categories with fewer than five rooms remaining are often not available through vacation package inventory.

Shorter booking window
Packages generally open only 10 to 11 months in advance.

No stacking of Sandals promotions or perks
You cannot apply Sandals Select points, first responder discounts, free anniversary nights, or the weekly 777 offer. Once booked, the price is locked even if a better promotion becomes available later.

What’s Included Regardless of How You Book

No matter which option you choose, the following benefits apply:

  • Transfers to and from Sandals and Beaches resorts are included
  • You still earn Sandals Select points

Which Option Is Right for You?

  • Booking direct is ideal if you want flexibility, long-term planning, loyalty benefits, and the ability to re-price when promotions are released.
  • Booking a vacation package is ideal if you want simplicity, a locked-in Canadian dollar price.

There is no one-size-fits-all answer, which is why working with a Sandals specialist matters.
