Sandals vs. Secrets: Which All-Inclusive Resort Brand Is Better?

If you're trying to decide between Sandals Resorts and Secrets Resorts, you're not alone. It's one of the questions I'm asked most often by couples planning a luxury Caribbean vacation.

The truth is that both brands offer beautiful adults-only, all-inclusive resorts. But after visiting multiple Sandals and Secrets properties—and helping hundreds of clients choose the right fit—I've found that they appeal to different types of travellers.

Here's how they compare.

Quick Answer

Choose Sandals if you want the most comprehensive luxury all-inclusive experience, especially for a honeymoon, anniversary, or milestone celebration. I will typically recommend Sandals to clients who want more of a Caribbean vibe.

Choose Secrets if you're looking for a slightly lower price point, enjoy exploring local destinations, or prefer a more relaxed atmosphere without needing all the extras that Sandals includes. I will typically provide some Secrets options to clients who prefer to travel to Mexico and the Dominican Republic.

For most of my clients looking for a true luxury couples' vacation, Sandals is usually the better value.

The Biggest Difference: What's Actually Included?

This is where Sandals really separates itself.

At both brands you'll enjoy:

Adults-only resorts
Unlimited dining
Premium drinks
Beautiful pools
Entertainment
Fitness facilities
Wi-Fi

But Sandals goes much further.

Depending on the resort, your stay can also include:

Scuba diving for certified divers
Snorkelling
Hobie Cat sailing
Paddleboarding
Kayaking
Waterskiing
Green fees at championship golf courses (at select resorts)
Airport transfers
Roundtrip airport lounges at select destinations
Butler service in premium room categories
Exchange privileges between nearby Sandals resorts

At many Secrets resorts, several of these activities are available—but often for an additional charge or through a third-party excursion company.

If you're someone who likes to stay active, Sandals typically offers significantly more value.

Food & Dining

Both brands have excellent restaurants.

Secrets generally offers between six and ten restaurants depending on the property.

Many Sandals resorts feature up to 16 unique dining experiences, ranging from French fine dining to sushi, Caribbean cuisine, steak houses, Italian restaurants, beach grills and gourmet cafés.

One advantage of Sandals is consistency.

Menus and service standards are carefully maintained across the brand, while every resort still has its own personality. I find that the small touches, like resort ambiance, selection and wines, put Sandals ahead of Secrets.

One of my favourite surprises recently was the incredible coffee at Sandals Dunn's River. It easily rivalled many specialty coffee shops back home.

Secrets has resorts throughout:

Mexico
Dominican Republic
Jamaica
Costa Rica
Aruba

Sandals focuses exclusively on the Caribbean:

Jamaica
Saint Lucia
Antigua
Barbados
Grenada
Bahamas
Curaçao
Saint Vincent

I find that because Sandals is Caribbean owned, they understand the Caribbean and seek to make guest experiences immersive in the island experience.

Which Brand Feels More Luxurious?

Both brands offer luxury accommodations.

That said, Sandals often feels more polished.

You'll find:

Overwater villas
Swim-up suites
Rondoval Butler Villas with private pools
Exceptional landscaping
Higher staff-to-guest ratios
Butler service that's among the best in the Caribbean

Secrets has beautiful Preferred Club rooms and suites, but overall the luxury experience tends to vary more from property to property. I don't love that inconsistency. I prefer resorts (like Sandals) that don't block off sections for certain guest categories.

Entertainment & Atmosphere

Sandals is lively without being a party resort. They generally have a wide variety of themed, nightly events.

Expect:

Live music
Piano bars
Beach parties
Cultural performances
Themed evenings
Speakeasies at select resorts
Cocktail bars
Fire pits

Secrets is generally quieter.

Service

This is one area where I consistently hear rave reviews about Sandals.

The staff often remember guests by name, anticipate preferences, and genuinely celebrate special occasions.

That doesn't mean Secrets has poor service—far from it—but Sandals places a tremendous emphasis on personalized hospitality, especially in Club and Butler categories.

Honeymoons

If you're planning your honeymoon, this decision becomes easier.

Sandals was built specifically for couples.

Everything—from the room design to the restaurants, entertainment and included activities—is designed around romance.

That's why it's consistently one of my top recommendations for honeymooners.

Secrets is certainly honeymoon-friendly, but it wasn't built exclusively around that experience in the same way.

Price

Secrets generally has a lower starting price.

However, comparing only the nightly rate doesn't tell the whole story.

Once you factor in:

Included scuba diving
Watersports
Golf
Airport transfers
Premium inclusions
Butler service options

…the overall value at Sandals is often stronger.

For couples who will take advantage of what's included, Sandals can actually cost less than booking similar experiences separately.

My Recommendation

If you're simply looking for a nice adults-only vacation, you'll likely enjoy either brand.

But if you're celebrating something special—or want a vacation where almost everything is included without constantly reaching for your wallet—I usually recommend Sandals.

Its combination of luxury accommodations, exceptional service, included activities, and romantic atmosphere continues to set it apart.

That's why it's still my favourite all-inclusive brand for couples.
