The Bahamas

The bahamas TRAVEL GUIDE
The Bahamas is a beautiful choice when you want a vacation built around beaches, clear turquoise water and time outdoors. You can spend your days swimming, exploring by boat or enjoying a resort with plenty of restaurants and activities.
There’s also a lot of variety across the islands. Nassau and Paradise Island offer resorts, dining and sightseeing, while destinations such as the Exumas and Harbour Island appeal to travellers looking for a different pace and setting.
It’s particularly well suited to couples, families and travellers who love being on or near the water.
When I help plan a Bahamas vacation, choosing the right island comes first. A romantic all-inclusive escape, a family resort vacation and a quieter island stay can each offer a very different experience.
why visit The bahamas?
AN INSIDER’S GUIDE
The beaches and water are a big part of the appeal, but where you stay shapes the rest of your Bahamas vacation. Nassau and Paradise Island are great places to consider if you want beach time alongside restaurants, resort entertainment and opportunities to explore.
I’d make room for a day on the water. A snorkelling cruise or private boat outing gives you a chance to enjoy the coastline and nearby islands, with routes and experiences varying by operator.
Beyond Nassau, there are other settings worth considering. The Exumas are known for their beautiful water and cays (and swimming pigs!), while Harbour Island is famous for its pink-sand beach.
You don’t need to visit several islands to have a memorable vacation. I’d choose the destination that best suits your travel style, then build your stay around the experiences you’ll enjoy most.

IS The bahamas RIGHT FOR YOU?
I especially recommend The Bahamas if:
- Beautiful beaches and turquoise water are major vacation priorities
- You want to enjoy a bucket list experience like swimming with pigs
- You enjoy boating, snorkelling or spending time by the sea
- You’re planning a romantic escape or honeymoon
- You want a family resort with plenty of activities
- You like having restaurants and sightseeing options alongside beach time
- You want to compare a lively resort destination with a quieter island stay
If you want a large choice of all-inclusive resorts or a vacation centred on rainforest hikes and waterfalls, I’d compare The Bahamas with a few other destinations before choosing your stay.

THE PERFECT WEEK
HOW I’D SPEND 7 DAYS IN THE BAHAMAS
For a first Bahamas resort vacation, I’d consider a week based in Nassau or Paradise Island.
This itinerary combines beach days with local food, a little history and time on the water. For a stay in the Exumas or another island, I’d build the week around that destination instead.
DAY 1 — ARRIVE + SETTLE IN
Check in, unpack and explore your resort. Keep your first evening relaxed with dinner and a drink while you settle into vacation.
DAY 2 — BEACH DAY
Spend your first full day enjoying where you’re staying. Swim, take a beach walk and leave plenty of time for a leisurely lunch.
DAY 3 — EXPLORE NASSAU
Head into Nassau for a guided outing or some sightseeing. Include the Queen’s Staircase if it interests you, browse local shops and make time for lunch.
DAY 4 — RESORT DAY
Leave the schedule open. Enjoy the pool, book a spa treatment or try some of your resort’s activities.
DAY 5 — GET ON THE WATER
Choose a snorkelling cruise or private boat trip departing near your hotel. Check the route, travel time and included stops before booking so the outing suits your group.
DAY 6 — BAHAMIAN FOOD + AN EASY AFTERNOON
Make time for local flavours, whether that’s conch fritters, fresh fish or a guided food experience. Spend the rest of the day at the beach or exploring nearby.
DAY 7 — ONE LAST BEACH DAY
Keep your final full day mostly free. Enjoy a slow breakfast, get back in the water and make the most of another afternoon away.
JEN’S TIP
Choose your island before choosing your hotel. The Bahamas covers a wide area, and an attraction you’ve seen online may be on another island. Confirm the departure point and travel involved before building your vacation around a particular excursion.
LET’S FIND YOUR BAHAMAS
When I recommend a Bahamas vacation, I look at the island, beach, resort atmosphere, room category and budget together. I also consider what’s included and how much you want to explore beyond your hotel.
Whether you’re considering Sandals Royal Bahamian, a family resort on Paradise Island or a quieter island escape, I’ll help you understand the options and choose a vacation that suits you.
