I recently returned from an incredible week in Saint Lucia that combined industry recognition at the Global Piton Awards, destination immersion, and some truly unforgettable moments.

I was honoured to attend the Global Piton Awards as one of only five Canadian travel advisors recognized at this year's event. While receiving the award was certainly a highlight, the experience as a whole reminded me why Saint Lucia continues to be one of my favourite Caribbean destinations to recommend.

Experiencing Saint Lucia Beyond the Resorts

During the trip, I stayed at Secrets St Lucia, one of the island's newest luxury all-inclusive resorts. It was an excellent opportunity to experience the property firsthand.

One of the most valuable parts of the week was participating in a destination immersion program organized by the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority. While many travellers know Saint Lucia for its beautiful resorts and stunning beaches, there is so much more to do on the island!

Our itinerary included:

• Exploring the capital city of Castries
• Visiting a local elementary school
• Touring a rum distillery
• Learning about Saint Lucia's history and cultural heritage
• Connecting with local communities
• Taking in some of the island's most iconic scenery, including the breathtaking Marigot Bay

The Global Piton Awards Reflect a Collective Effort

Attending the Global Piton Awards was a tremendous honour. It reflects the trust and support of my clients, the strong partnerships I have built with suppliers and tourism partners, and the continued growth of my business over the past several years.

While I may have been the one standing on the stage, this recognition represents the collective efforts of many people. Every client who has trusted me to plan a honeymoon, family vacation, anniversary trip, or bucket-list adventure has played a role in this achievement.

As a business owner, there are plenty of early mornings, late nights, and ongoing investments in training, destination knowledge, and relationship building that happen behind the scenes. Moments like this are a reminder that those efforts matter and that helping clients create meaningful travel experiences is work I truly love.

A Surprise I Will Never Forget

The final evening of our trip was spent at Sandals Halcyon Beach, and it became one of the most meaningful moments of the entire week.

During my hosted group trip to Saint Lucia in May 2026, I had admired a painting displayed in the Sandals Halcyon lobby and commented to the team on how much I loved the artwork.

What I didn't know was that the Sandals team remembered.

As a surprise during this visit, the team presented me with a recreation of that painting, commissioned through a local Saint Lucian artist.

The gift itself is beautiful, but what made the gesture so meaningful was the thoughtfulness behind it. The fact that someone remembered a casual conversation and went to such lengths to create something so personal speaks volumes about the people behind the Sandals brand.
