Sandals Grande Antigua vs Sandals Negril: Which Resort Is Right for You?

A beautiful beach, a cocktail in hand and a week with your favourite person. Both Sandals Grande Antigua and Sandals Negril make that sound very appealing.

But when you’re deciding where to spend your vacation, the details matter. How quickly can you get from the airport to your lounger? Would you rather have more restaurants to explore or spend your evenings watching the sunset from the beach? And which room actually fits your budget?

If you’re comparing Sandals Grande Antigua vs Sandals Negril, here’s how I’d help you narrow it down.

Both are adults-only, all-inclusive resorts designed for couples. The beach locations, dining counts and featured suites above reflect Sandals’ current resort listings.

The Beach: Dickenson Bay or Seven Mile Beach?

For many couples, this is where the decision starts.

Sandals Grande Antigua sits on Dickenson Bay, with pale sand and turquoise water that make a beach day very tempting. If your vacation plans revolve around swimming, reading and occasionally deciding it’s time for another drink, it deserves a place on your shortlist.

Sandals Negril sits on Jamaica’s Seven Mile Beach, where beach time comes with the added appeal of those famous Negril sunsets. If you picture yourself staying by the water until the sky changes colour, that’s a strong reason to consider Negril.

My recommendation? Think about how you want to spend your day. If sunset watching is part of your ideal evening routine, I’d give Negril extra consideration. If a beautiful bay and a quick arrival are higher on your list, Antigua becomes especially appealing.

The Resort Setting: Two Different Ways to Unwind

Sandals Grande Antigua has two distinct settings: the tropical Caribbean Beachfront Village and the Mediterranean Oceanview Village. That gives you different accommodation styles to consider within the same resort.

This is one reason I wouldn’t choose your room based on price alone. The setting around it matters, too. Do you prefer a garden atmosphere, or are you drawn to a Mediterranean-style suite?

Sandals Negril’s appeal centres on its relaxed beachfront setting. Sandals describes it as a resort for couples looking for a carefree, intimate escape.

For couples who tell me, “We just want to switch off and enjoy being together,” Negril is well worth considering.

The Rooms: Compare the Exact Category

Choosing the resort is only part of the decision. Choosing the right room can make just as much difference.

At Sandals Grande Antigua, standout options include Rondoval Suites and Mediterranean Butler Villas with private plunge pools. These are worth exploring if privacy and time in your own outdoor space are priorities.

Sandals Negril options include SkyPool Butler Suites with private elevated pools and beachfront swim-up Butler Suites with direct lagoon-pool access.

Before recommending a category, I’d want to know:

  • Will you spend much time in your room?
  • Is an ocean view essential?
  • Would you use a private pool or swim-up access?
  • Do you want Butler service?
  • Would you rather put more of your budget toward extra nights?

A spectacular suite can be worth the splurge when you’ll enjoy its features. If you plan to be out from breakfast until bedtime, a different room may make more sense.

Dining: Grande Antigua Has More Choice

Sandals Grande Antigua currently lists 11 restaurants, including Italian, Caribbean, sushi and Japanese teppanyaki options, while Sandals Negril currently lists eight restaurants.

If trying a different restaurant each evening is a big part of your vacation, I’d give Grande Antigua the edge for variety.

That said, the number of restaurants isn’t the whole story. I’d also look at the menus you’re most likely to enjoy, any dietary needs and how long you’re staying.

Airport Transfers: Antigua Has the Advantage

If you want to land and get to the resort quickly, Sandals Grande Antigua has the clear advantage. Sandals’ travel checklist estimates approximately 20 minutes from the airport.

Sandals Negril involves a longer drive from Montego Bay. Sandals’ published estimates vary from approximately 60 to 75 minutes, and actual travel time depends on traffic and road conditions. Round-trip airport transfers are included at both resorts.

For a shorter getaway, that difference may carry more weight. For a longer stay, you may be perfectly happy with the drive to Negril.

I’d compare the complete journey from your home airport, too. A convenient flight schedule can matter just as much as the transfer after landing.

Which Resort Offers Better Value?

There isn’t a permanent winner here.

The better value depends on your dates, flights, available rooms and the promotions that apply to your booking. Comparing an entry-level room at one resort with a Butler Suite at the other won’t tell you much.

When I prepare options, I look at the overall vacation: what you’ll spend, what you’ll receive and whether those features matter to you.

Sometimes the best choice is the room you really want. Sometimes it’s the option that lets you stay another night.

My Recommendation: Which Would I Choose for You?

Sandals Grande Antigua is a great option if you:

  • Want a shorter airport transfer.
  • Enjoy having more dining choices.
  • Like the choice of Caribbean and Mediterranean village settings.
  • Are considering a private-pool Rondoval or Butler Villa.

I’d lean toward Sandals Negril if you:

  • Love the idea of a relaxed Jamaican beach vacation.
  • Want sunset watching to be part of your evenings.
  • Are interested in a SkyPool or beachfront swim-up Butler Suite.
  • Are comfortable with a longer airport transfer.

Both deserve consideration. Your priorities—and the rooms available for your dates—will help determine the better fit.
